The John Muir Trust’s Wild Land Management Standards are the principles that guide our management of the properties we own: Ben Nevis; Sandwood; Schiehallion; Quinag; Li & Coire Dhorrcail on Knoydart; Sconser, Strathaird and Torrin on Skye; and Glenlude in the Scottish Borders. With the help of this site, we hope we can encourage other wild land managers to adopt the same standards and take an ecosystem approach to the management of wild land.

Woodland management is often key to reversing the damage caused by overgrazing and burning.
The John Muir Trust would like to see the majority of the UK’s wild land supporting natural habitats and species.
We envision a diverse landscape of native woodland, sustainable numbers of grazing animals, rich flora and abundant wildlife.
We see the wide open spaces, stunning views, fresh air and clean water that are so important to people’s well-being, being valued and protected.
This is our vision of wild land management.
