The John Muir Trust’s Wild Land Management Standards are the principles that guide our management of the properties we own and manage: Ben Nevis; Sandwood; Schiehallion; Quinag; Li & Coire Dhorrcail on Knoydart; Sconser, Strathaird and Torrin on Skye; Glenlude in the Scottish Borders and Glenridding Common in the English Lake District. With the help of this site, we hope we can encourage other wild land managers to adopt the same standards and take an ecosystem approach to the management of wild land.

Woodland management is often key to reversing the damage caused by overgrazing and burning.
The John Muir Trust would like to see the wide open spaces, stunning views, fresh air and clean water that are so important to people’s well-being, being valued and protected.
We envision a diverse landscape of native woodland, sustainable numbers of grazing animals, rich flora and abundant wildlife.
We see the majority of the UK’s wild land supporting natural habitats and species .
This is our vision of wild land management.
